GOAL: 1.4 High Rates of Voter Participation

The right to vote is the foundation of a democratic society.  The battle to expand this right to include women and African-Americans was hard fought and hard won.  For those who are eligible to vote, the right to cast a ballot on Election Day is a way to exercise both individual and community will.  Although some Boston residents are ineligible to vote for reasons of age or nationality, all residents can become informed about civic issues and help to create or participate in substantive public discourse, dialogue and debate that can influence the outcomes of elections.
