3D immersion game is part of the master planning
What: Participatory Chinatown is a 3D immersive game designed to be part of the master planning process for Boston's Chinatown. Decision-making entities need new and innovative methods to interact with and engage residents. Each user’s comments and decisions are reported and shared with real-life decision-makers to inform planning and policy decisions.
Who: A collective effort by the Asian Community Development Corporation, Emerson College, Metropolitan Area Planning Council and Muzzy Lane.
How: Users assume the role of a virtual resident and work to complete their assigned quest – find a job, housing or place to socialize. The challenge, however, is that sometimes language skills, income level or other circumstances can make the tasks more challenging. Whatever one's experience, users are then tasked with considering the future of the neighborhood by walking through and commenting on proposed development sites.
